Chateau Montrose 3 Grand Vignolles, 33180 Saint-Estèphe,France

Chateau Montrose is one of the leading wine properties of St. Estephe, Bordeaux. It was owned by Jean-Louis Charmolue from 1962 until 2006, when it was sold to Martin and Olivier Bouygues. The Bouygues invested over 50 million euros in renovating the winery. The 95 hectare vineyard surrounds the chateau, and is planted with 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, and 2% Petit Verdot. The average age of the vines are 40 years old. The soil consists of gravel mixed with sand on the surface over a clay-rich subsoil. After the harvest, the wines go through malolactic fermentation in the stainless steel tanks, and then aged in 60% new French oak barrels. The Cabernet Sauvignon expresses austere, powerful, and intense characteristics with the help of gentle touch of silky tannin from Merlot. Cabernet Franc enhances the elegant aroma, and Petit Verdot completes the complexity with the deep purple color and pleasant spice.
