Teso La Monja CTRA. De Navaridas, S/N - 01309, Paganos Laguardia,Spain

Grape growers since 1870, five generations of the Eguren family dedicated to the noble art of cultivating the land and harvesting the fruit. The philosophy of Teso La Monja stems from the privileged terroirs of the Toro appellation. Tinta de Toro grapes from the deeply rooted vines translate the pure minerality of the soil into powerful, yet elegant wine. The pre-phylloxera vineyard is 1.8 hectare and managed by hand at just right time and day with the minimum intervention, which is the core of the family’s philosophy. A team of 50 people select the ripen berries by hand one by one. Once the alcoholic fermentation begins in an open wooden tank, the manual pressing commences with 25 to 50 cm of the grapes on the surface. The grapes are pressed in a process occurring three times a day for an hour and a half. The malolactic fermentation takes place in a unique egg-shaped oak tank, the Ovum, designed by the master coopers of the maison Taransaud complying the ‘divine ratio.’ The Ovum fosters the biorhythms of the wine to achieve the silky tannin and elegant aroma. Finally, the wine is aged in a medium toasted French Bordelaise oak barrels for a minimum period of 24 months. Teso La Monja displays great freshness that embraces powerful tannin with mesmerizing aroma and slightly ethereal body that results an everlasting impression.
