L’Insieme

The L’Insieme is the name of a charitable association founded by Elio Altare along with wine growers in Piemonte region. These wine makers agreed to eliminate use of chemical and synthetic fertilizers and decided to donate the finest barrels of their wines to be donated to organizations that help to preserve historical sites, Amazon rainforest, people in need of medical care, and farmers around the world.

In Italian insieme means together. In this context, it has two connotations. Growers working together for a common cause and the blending of native grapes with international grapes. The blending of the regional classics with the international luminaries is a symbolic of the need for humanitarian relief which transcends cultural boundaries.

Elio Altare produces about 70,000 bottles of wines every year; however, L’Insieme is only available 1,500 bottles per year. The ages of vines are from 10 to 30 years old. It is a blending of native grapes, such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, along with the international varieties, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, and Pinot Noir. The color of wine is intense red ruby. It has spicy aroma, and a big structure with a touch of herb and spice on the palate. It matches well with red meat and aged cheese.
